History...

Back in 2003, Clive Fuller, his son, Warren and Andre Dus (landlord of The Nine Elms) had a few ales and were talking about football. As a result of that discussion ‘Nine Elms United’ was formed with Clive as manager. Word got around quickly about the new team and players were soon signed on and the team registered in the Swindon Sunday Football League.

As newcomers they were placed at the bottom in Division 7 and proceeded to storm their way to the top finishing as Division 7 champions with an unblemished record of 20 wins from 20 league games; scoring nearly 150 goals in the process. During the same season they also reached the semi-finals of the Wiltshire Cup with the following results:
• Nine Elms Utd (4) v Highworth Plough (0)
• Nine Elms Utd (4) v Holt F.C.(3)
• Nine Elms Utd (2) v Transtaff (1)
• Nine Elms Utd (0) v Wroughton F.C. (2)

The season of 2004/5 saw Nine Elms Utd get off to a shaky start in Division 6, losing 3 out of their first 4 games. Fortunately things picked up and 16 wins from the next 17 matches meant that they finished overall as runners-up to the Dophin.

A similar story happened in Division 5 for the 2005/6 season, again the Nine Elms earned promotion as runners up, this time to Castrol.

The season of 2006/7 in Division 4 was probably the most successful to date for the Nine Elms who were drawn against Corsham Centre in the Wiltshire Cup. Corsham, who had remained unbeaten at home for over 2 years, were sent crashing out of the Wiltshire Cup as they lost 4-1 to Nine Elms. The Elms finished as runners-up in the Wiltshire Cup after losing 5-2 to The Greyhound in the final. They also reached the final of The Chairman’s Trophy where The Elms defeated The Bear of Marlborough in a very one-sided affair. It was only a last game defeat by AFC Cricklade that stopped them.

Promotion to Division 3 was achieved for the 2007/8 season. The Elms at last finished as champions again in the league after a stop-start season that saw them promoted to Division 2.

The 2008/9 season was once again a topsy-turvy affair but The Elms came out on top, winning the league and ending as runners-up to The Greyhound in the Knockout Cup after losing 3-1 in a game that could, with a bit of luck, easily gone the other way.

For the 2009/10 season The Nine Elms finally made it to Division one where they have made a good start. Maybe they can knock The Greyhound off their pedestal!
